The short answer
A sex swing stand is a frame that stands on your floor and holds a swing. Ours is free standing: no bolts or brackets in your ceiling, floor or wall. Making the right choice comes down to six things: what weight is it rated to hold, the floor area it needs, the ceiling height it needs, how it packs and stores, how long it takes to assemble, and can it be used as more than just a sex swing?
We offer a couple sex swing stands shipped from our shop in Oregon:
- Tetruss Rig. The lightest and the quickest to put up. It has an 8x8x8 ft triangular footprint, and assembles in about 5 minutes.
- Tetruss Maxximus. A 42 inch top section with room to work inside the frame. A 9 ft triangular footprint, and assembles in about 15 minutes.
Both are rated to hold 300 pounds dynamic load and made for a standard 8 foot ceiling. The rig can be bundled with various swing accessories, or sold as the stand alone. Here is how to check any stand, and where ours fit.
Is a swing included?
No. A Tetruss rig is the sex swing frame only. The swing accessories are offered in various bundled options along with the rig.
If you already own a rig, you can get our 3 Leather Thigh/Back Stirrups set: 2 leather thigh stirrups and 1 backswing with D-rings.

Or buy the frame and the swing together in one of our Deluxe bundles. The bundles are where we put our best pricing on a frame with accessories included from our 3-piece stirrup sets, leather suspension cuffs, or spreader bar.
- The Rig Deluxe Bundle with 1 set of leather suspension cuffs, is the Tetruss Rig plus a 44 inch spreader bar, 2 leather thigh stirrups, 1 leather back swing and 1 set of leather suspension cuffs.
- The Maxximus Deluxe Bundle is the frame with its 42 inch top, a 44 inch spreader bar and 3 leather stirrups.
See our shop for all the bundle options.
What to check in a sex swing stand
A stand comes down to a short list. Get each answer for any stand you look at, ours included. If a listing leaves one out, ask before you buy.
What it is rated to hold
This is the first number and the one to take most seriously. Look for a load rating the maker publishes in their own words, and read the words around the number.
Here are ours, as published. The Tetruss Rig and the Maxximus: “Safely supports up to 300 pounds dynamic load.”
That is the rating we publish. Know the number before you buy, and stay inside it.
How much floor it needs
A stand trades ceiling for floor. It needs a patch of floor to stand on, plus room to move around it.
Our footprints:
- Tetruss Rig: an 8 ft triangle.
- Tetruss Maxximus: a 9 ft triangle.
Measure at the spot where it will stand, not the room in general. Beds, dressers and doors that swing inward all take floor. Mark the shape on the floor with tape before you order and walk around it.
How much ceiling it needs
A stand still has to fit under your ceiling. Ours are made for a standard 8 foot ceiling.
Lower than that? We build to your room. Order the Custom Height Option, email us the exact height of your ceiling after you order, and we make a Tetruss to fit your space. There is also the Tmax Extra Lower Leg Set: shorter lower leg segments, made to the ceiling height you give us, for rooms with lower ceilings.
Higher than that? A set of three 2 Foot Height Extensions fits both rigs.
Measure the ceiling where the frame will stand. Check that spot for ceiling fans, light fixtures and anything else that hangs down.
How it packs and travels
If the stand lives in a closet between uses, or goes with you, this check decides it. Ask what it weighs and what it packs into.
The Tetruss Rig weighs about 21 pounds, the Tetruss Maxximus about 33. Each frame breaks down for storage, so it can live in a closet when you are done. Our travel bag is sold separately and fits both the Rig and the Maxximus. One reviewer called the Tetruss a “Dungeon in a Duffel Bag!”

How long it takes to put up
If you put it up and take it down every time, set-up time is part of every use, check for the set-up time.
Ours:
- Tetruss Rig: about 5 minutes.
- Tetruss Maxximus: about 15 minutes.
If you have the room, you can leave it standing.
What else it does
When considering a frame, ask what else it is built for.
We call the Tetruss a 3 in 1: sex swing play, kink dungeon play and suspension rope bondage. The Rig and the Maxximus also work as a St. Andrew’s cross or a spanking bench. With the stirrups, cuffs and a spreader bar, it does non-rope suspension in a wide variety of configurations. In one customer’s words, it “can be used for rope suspension, swing hanging, or can be used in replace of a St Andrew’s cross.”
If the cross is what you want next, read our guide on how to choose a St. Andrew’s cross. If rope is, read how to choose a shibari suspension frame.
A stand or a ceiling mount
A ceiling mount is usually a forged eyebolt in the ceiling with the swing hanging from it. A hook needs a hole. If you own your home, that is your call. If you rent, it is your landlord’s ceiling.
Whether your ceiling can take an eyebolt is a question for a builder who can look at your house. For safety, it also needs to be a load rated installation, or it could rip out of the ceiling.
A free standing sex swing frame changes the question. Ours need “NO!!! Bolts, Brackets, Hooks, Holes, or Nails in ceilings or walls,” and nothing is fixed to the floor either. The frame stands on its own and carries its own rating: 300 pounds dynamic load for the Rig and the Maxximus. That means:
- No holes in your ceiling, floors or walls. Our rigs are free-standing with no additional mounting.
- It travels. Home, hotel, office, dungeon or outdoors. One customer tried it “in a hotel room!”
- Put away. Take it down and store it in our compact travel bag.
The trade-off is floor. A hook takes none. A stand takes the footprint above, plus room around it.
Why a Tetruss is a better value than a cheap stand
- Made in Oregon. All rigs are made in our Oregon, USA shop.
- Lightweight: A light-weight aluminum alloy frame. The Rig weighs about 21 pounds.
- Capacity. 300 pounds, in writing, on every rig’s page.
- A one-year warranty on all parts.
- Since 2000. Tetruss has been handcrafting rigs since 2000.
- 3 in 1 versatility. A Rig or a Maxximus is a swing stand today, a St. Andrew’s cross, Shibari suspension rig, or a spanking bench tomorrow.
Weigh that against how you will use it.
